Chris Solinsky is a retired American long-distance runner who competed in track and field events, specializing in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. He was born on December 5, 1983 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
Solinsky gained national attention in 2010 when he became the first non-African runner to break the 27-minute barrier in the 10,000 meters, setting a new American record of 26:59.60. This performance was considered a significant breakthrough in American distance running.
Throughout his career, Solinsky also competed in the 5,000 meters, winning the US Outdoor National Championship in 2010. He represented the United States at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, finishing sixth in the 5,000 meters.
Injuries plagued Solinsky in the later years of his career, leading to his retirement from professional running in 2016. Since retiring, he has stayed involved in the running community as a coach and mentor to young athletes.
